14th place finish in Sunshine Nationals opener at Volusia

Making his 2021 season debut, Earl Pearson Jr. and the Black Diamond Race Cars team invaded Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Fla.) on Wednesday afternoon for the DIRTcar Sunshine Nationals opener. Drawing 38 World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series entries, Pearson Jr. came one spot short of a transfer position in his heat race with a fifth place finish, transferring him into the B-Main for another shot at the opening night feature. Scoring a runner-up finish behind Ross Robinson, Earl locked into the 19th-startng position for the A-Main. With $10,000 on the line, Pearson Jr. gained five spots in the 40-lapper to place 14th. After Mother Nature wiped out Friday night’s program, Earl recorded a sixth place finish in his heat race on Saturday evening, giving him one final shot at the $10,000-to-win finale with a B-Main appearance. Needing to place third or better, Pearson Jr. fell one spot short with a fourth-place outing.
